We are an adult theatrical group, over 16’s, specialising in revue style shows, based in Hemel Hempstead. The group began in the mid 1970’s and has been going strong ever since. Please take a look around our site where you will find ticket information, links to movie clips, information about cast members and much more.

We are always on the lookout for talented performers and people to help out on show nights, so why not get in touch if you would like more information.

We perform two shows each year, running four nights each, in January and July. Our shows are a great night out and we sit the audience at tables rather than in rows of chairs so you can bring your own refreshments (including alcohol) and have a fun night with us. We include a raffle during each performance with all proceeds going to a pre-determined charity.

Our History

Name

The Leverstock Green Players, or L.G.P for short. It is believed that there has also been a group in the village at one time called ‘The Leverstock Green Village Players’

Location

The group rehearses and performs at Leverstock Green Community Centre (members can also be found looking bleary eyed in The Green Man!)

Rehersals

The Players rehearse at the Community Centre in Leverstock Green every Thursday night from 7.45pm to 10pm, although this can vary should the need arise

Formation

Traditional belief is that the Players formed circa 1976/77. However, there is in existence a photograph of The Leverstock Green Players dated 1956. This appears in a local history book about the Leverstock Green and Bennetts End, written by Barbara Chapman. Who this group was though remains a mystery.

Stage Productions

No fixed format, which enables The Players to present various styles of production; Revue, Variety, Old Time Musicals and Pantomimes. Along the way two shows have had story lines; ‘Apple Sauce’ (1980) and ‘Our Once A Year Day’ (1998). Several shows have had themes.

Shows combine comedy, acting, singing, dancing and the occasional cross-dressing. Special effects, in the form of ultra-violet, have been utilised in many imaginative ways. With the exception of the serious ‘Pandora’s Box’ and ‘A Native American Sequence’, these have been light hearted and sometimes (although not intentionally) comical.

Films have also been used during productions, most notable in ‘Space Fantasia’ (1989), which showed the moon landing during it’s 20th anniversary, and also in ‘Stagerama’ (1994) which featured Elvis Presley performing Heartbreak Hotel.

Performances

The number of performances has varied across the years, originally being one night only, to the current four nights across two weekends. Saturday afternoon matinees have been performed for pantomime, although it has been a long time since one of those has been staged

Outside Shows

For many years, in addition to the main shows, The Players used to perform extra shows. These were where organisations, mainly rest homes for the elderly, invited the group along to perform for them. On three occasions The Players performed at the Royal Star and Garter home in Richmond and once at the Queensway Hall in Dunstable.

This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:

Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.)

…or something like this:

The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickeys to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.
